A Life Well Lived
With his daughter by his side, William Lewis Codd passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, August 24, 2025, in Montrose, Colorado. He was 91 years old.
Born on December 31, 1933, Bill was raised on a dairy farm in Northborough, a small town in central Massachusetts. He was an only child and lived in a big farmhouse with his parents, grandparents, and a couple of aunts. He often said that he was “raised by a committee of women,” which is probably why he was so respectful of women all of his life.
In 1954, he married Beverly Rich, the love of his life. They shared 64 years of marriage until her passing in 2018. Together, they raised two children in Northborough, then moved to New Jersey in 1978 before retiring to Montrose, CO, in 1995.
Bill proudly served in the National Guard for over eight years, achieving the rank of sergeant as a rifle instructor. Bill had a lifelong passion for learning and applied his analytical mind to a successful career in mechanical engineering. He managed machine shops for abrasive companies in Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Montrose. He was admired and respected for his leadership and innovative approach to problem-solving.
Bill was always available to his kids, helping with school projects and coaching Little League games, often hosting the end-of-season cookouts for Dana’s teams. In the 1960s, he and Bev bought a small pop-up tent trailer, and the family often went camping in New Hampshire and Maine during the summer months.
In his retirement, Bill deepened his Christian faith and supported the Montrose United Methodist Church. He regularly attended worship services and Bible study classes at Montage Creek Assisted Living, where he spent his final years.
Bill leaves his daughter, Kimberly Floyde of Montrose, his son, Dana Codd, and his wife, LuAnn, of Long Valley, New Jersey. He also leaves a granddaughter, Samantha Eason of Brooklyn, New York, a grandson, Nicholas Codd of Hollywood, South Carolina, and a great-granddaughter, Logan.
Bill’s legacy of joy and integrity will live on through those who knew him.
He will be deeply missed by those who loved him. ❤️
