Karen Barrix, a local volunteer, is sewing memory bears for people who have lost loved ones. The stuffed animals, usually sewn from a shirt or other clothing item from the person who has passed away, are meant to provide comfort and companionship during a difficult time.
“I lost my husband suddenly,” shares Barrix. “I had been helped by the Grief Programs at HopeWest during a very hard time in my life. When I learned about sewing memory bears for people who had lost their loved ones, I wanted to pay it forward. I know how much my Memory Bear means to me.”
Karen is a true inspiration. We are so grateful for her dedication to helping people find courage and hope during their time of grief.
