Richard Brumbaugh (1940-2026) passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Austin, Colorado, Saturday morning, October 24th, 2026.

Richard graduated from Brown University with a degree in exploration geology and minors in quantum physics and mathematics. He spent most his life working for various mining companies, exploring North America looking for those elusive ore deposits.

He married his beloved wife, Sarah, in April of 1964 and together they raised three children, Kathleen, Kenneth, and Kiva.

Richard was known for his adventurous spirit and dry sense of humor. He loved learning new things, especially anything within the scientific realm. He always kept his eyes and mind open to new possibilities.

Richard is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sarah; his children, Kathleen of Kanab, UT, Kenneth of New Castle, CO, Kiva of Howard, CO; his grandchildren, Risa, Brian, Marcus, Cember, Kendra, Tristan, Dawson, Phaedrus; his great grandchildren, Maverick, Kynslee, Conway, Elsey Ann.

Richard will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His adventurous personality will surely live on through the generations that follow.

“Adventure opens your heart, broadens your mind, and fills your life with stories to tell”
