Suite Bee Floral, a HopeWest volunteer group in Grand Junction, is spreading cheer through their crafty creations. Based out of the Center for Hope and Healing, these volunteers, led by Charlotte Osmundson of the Tanglewood group, are an important part of the HopeWest community.

While the group puts together patient gifts such as flower arrangements in teacups all year round, from July through November they build unique holiday decorations to help fundraise in support of the HopeWest mission. Displayed in the hallway and sold at Spoons bistro & bakery as well as in the silent auction at the Holiday Show, proceeds from each item help provide funds for HopeWest programs such as bereavement support, hospice care, PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly), and palliative care.

These aren’t just any decorations that you might find at the big box store. They are one-of-a-kind wreaths and centerpieces, ranging from small to great sizes, crafted from items donated to HopeWest or Heirlooms for Hospice. Many requests have been made over the years to recreate pieces, yet the nature of each item is such that no two are exactly alike due to materials and the team member arranging it.

At the heart of this yearly project is a team of about 12 people who bring their diverse tastes and talents together. Karen, a long-time HopeWest volunteer shares, “We like working with each other. Everyone has different tastes, and it all comes together.” Kathy, another Suite Bee volunteer, finds joy in the creative process saying, “I like to take old pieces and turn them into new pieces. And I can fit it around my mom’s appointments. It’s nice to have the flexibility with volunteering to do that.”

As the leader of the group, Charlotte reflects fondly on the bonds formed within this team. “We have a close-knit group of volunteers in here,” she says. “Everyone looks forward to seeing each other for a couple hours each week.” Kathy adds, “This is our escape each week together.”

The Suite Bee Floral group is busy all year long putting together decorations that bring smiles to people’s faces. They are currently welcoming new members. If you’re interested in joining this wonderful team, please contact Charlotte at COsmundson@HopeWestCO.org. Join them in making a difference, one creative piece at a time!
