Submitted by Susan Claycomb Crowley

Born on April 28, 1940, and passed away on November 9, 2023, at 83, at home among family and friends in Grand Junction, CO. Bill was born to Duke and Ann Claycomb (Maitland) in Denver, Colorado.

Bill married Sharon Ann Shidler on August 17, 1968, in Denver. They moved to Grand Junction in 1970 to start a family. Bill began with Pitney Bowes, then chose to further his career in accounting at Mesa State College (CMU). After his career in accounting, he became the Women’s Head Golf Coach at Colorado Mesa State for three years. In addition to his family, Bill had a great love of golf, fishing, hunting, and boating. If he wasn’t playing golf, he was watching it on TV.

Bill is survived by his wife, Sharon Shidler of 54 years, and his five children: Cheryl Claycomb Anderegg (Larry) of Grand Junction, CO, Melodie Claycomb of Pennsylvania, Grant Claycomb of Las Vegas, NV, Linda Claycomb Medina (Steve) of Denver, CO, and Susan Claycomb Crowley (Ken) of Edina, MN along with eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Bill was the third oldest of five children: Linda, James, Duke (deceased), and Michael (deceased). Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Forest Cook Claycomb and Ann Maitland Claycomb.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, we invite you to make a donation to HopeWest Hospice of Grand Junction at https://www.hopewestco.org/donate/ in Bill’s honor.
