Barbara was a beautiful woman who lived a long & fulfilling life of almost 98 years. On May 12, 2022, she passed away peacefully at Ferris Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction, CO.
In Oceanside, CA, Barbara was born to Mina & Kenneth Stanley on May 18, 1924. She grew up in Oceanside as an only child, adored by her parents. She graduated from Oceanside High School in 1942.
Barbara met & married Lieutenant Leroy “Rob” Robertson, a marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA, in 1944. After a quick courtship, they were married six weeks later before Rob left to serve in WWII. Upon returning from the war, they opened & ran a Mom & Pop business together in Oceanside, “Robertson Stationers,” for almost four decades.
Barbara & Rob were blessed with two daughters, Cynthia “Cindy” Ann Robertson McCord & Rebecca “Becky” Robertson Hooper. Mom was fondly known as “Nana” by her Grandchildren, Todd & Troy McCord, Keri Hooper Conklin & Katie Hooper Osborne. After leaving her beloved home in Oceanside & moving to Colorado to be with family in 2004, Barbara was thankful to have lived long enough to have four Great Grandchildren, Peter & Dana Conklin, & Zoie & Alie Osborne.
The love of Mom’s life was her home & family! She was a devoted mother & a kind & gracious person who had many friends. Mom loved our pets- dogs, Angel & Otto, Fluffy the cat, Baby doll, the parakeet, & Quacky, our duck. She was an excellent cook and loved decorating her home by painting & wallpapering. Gardening & flower arranging were among her hobbies, along with collecting antiques & refinishing old furniture. She sewed & quilted as well, with these skills inherited from her mother & Grandmother. She loved music & dancing, especially the Big Band era & vocalists of that time. Barbara was always the “life of the party!” She loved to entertain, hosting family & friends, especially during the holidays.
Mom was a Bluebird & Camp Fire Girls leader as we were growing up. She loved working with the girls in this organization. She was an active member of PEO, both in the Oceanside chapter and the Grand Junction chapter, who graciously welcomed her when she moved. Some of her best friends were in this organization, promoting young women to further their education.
Mom received exceptional & loving “End of Life” care while at Hope West Hospice. Mom’s “Celebration of Life” tribute was held on her birthday with family, facilitated by her Chaplain, in the beautiful Hospice Garden. In her memory, an engraved memorial brick will be placed along the garden path. She will be interred at Eternal Hills Cemetery in Oceanside, CA, with her parents & her husband of 51 years, Rob Robertson, who predeceased her in 1995. Mom modeled for us how to live a good life by working hard, showing kindness, giving to those in need, & loving deeply. Mom will remain forever in our hearts & missed greatly by our family.
