Sherman Melvin Marrs, 88, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2021, at Hope West in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was born April 8, 1933, in Florence, CO, to William and Vera (Rowe) Marrs.

Sherman is best known for his honesty, integrity, and hard work ethic. He wouldn’t stop until the job was done and done right. Sherman never cut corners and was well respected by the ones that hired him. He worked on several farms in the San Luis Valley for many years and could do anything that needed to be done. He was widely known around the Grand Valley for hauling scrap metals from many different businesses and going out in the desert and cleaning up the junk that people dumped. He knew exactly how much metal to load on a semi-truck, so the driver was never fined for exceeding weight. He had a soft spot for animals, especially dogs and cats, and they loved him.

Surviving him is his wife Illa Marie, sons Rick (Sheree) & Jerry (Debbie) of Willow, AK, and daughters Pam Sheldon of Thermopolis, WY, Deborah (Dave) Minear of Eckert CO. Proud of his 9 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Harold, sister Hazel and daughter Diana.

The family wishes to thank HopeWest for their excellent care for Sherman. Donations can be made to HopeWest. A memorial service will be held on August 15 at 11:00 am at Memorial Gardens, 2970 North Ave.
