Shannon started playing the harp nearly three years ago. It\u2019s a soothing instrument, and music can speak where words cannot. She began her volunteering journey with HopeWest in January of 2022. Though she hasn\u2019t volunteered for long, she has made strong connections in our community. Patients, families, and staff alike have been calmed by the soft, fluttering notes of the harp.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI get the opportunity to make a special connection with people. There is a lot of fear and concern [at end of life],\u201d Shannon said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She plays in the Ferris Care Center, and it\u2019s a welcoming sound in the building when she plays. Families send cards thanking her for her time and talent, even through the hardest times, gratitude abounds. \u201cI get the opportunity to make a special connection and a positive experience in a way that brings comfort.\u201d<\/p>\n
Music runs in her veins and Shannon is learning to play the mandolin, ukulele, flute, and recorder with her children. We are glad to have her as a volunteer, and maybe the next time you are in the Care Center, you\u2019ll hear the soothing sounds of the harp.<\/p>\n
